Offered here is a circa
1930s, good old Navaho weaving that measures 5 feet 5 inches long by 4 foot 3
inches wide or 65” x 51”. It is
attributed to the Crystal Trading Post weaving area and is in excellent
condition. It was woven by an expert weaver
on a primitive upright loom of all Native hand shorn, hand carded and nicely
handspun long staple Churro sheep wool, both weft & warp. The design is a nice simple yet large bold
red & black chevrons all pointing towards the center of the pale gray
field. The border is a nice old terraced
or stepped red, black and white meandering motif. A very nice old rug with No Reserve. This vintage Native American textile is fresh out of
one of two large Colorado Springs collections we obtained just to offer you
here on eBay. It has a nice, even weft
count averaging 20 per inch and a warp count of 7 per inch. The selvage cords are 100% original, complete
and in excellent condition. Warp
selvages are 2-spiral cords and weft selvages are 2-spiral cords. All four corners are tight, original and in
excellent condition. All four tassels are
original and in excellent condition. No
bleed, no holes, no odors, no moth nibbles, no fade, it is pretty clean and
comes from a non-smoking home. Both
sides are even in color and shown in photos above. Colors in this piece of old American Indian
art are excellent and are hand blended & carded natural black & ivory
white along with hand dyed turkey red and a very pale grey either from weak
after-bath black or vegetal dyed from Indian Paint Brush. Complete with lazy lines, this example of antique
Native Americana is ready to display in your own hacienda or just tuck away in
your private rug & blanket collection.
