lemons, radishes, ballet slippers, railroad conductor's pocket

watch, and teacup & saucer.

lovely grouping of violet grapes resting within a ornate gold vintage

creamer!

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]-->

In volume #3 he presents two fully narrated, one-hour comprehensive

demonstrations!  The two hours of solid instruction include compositions

involving a railroad conductor's pocket watch with all of its intricate

In volume #4 he presents two hours of fully narrated demonstrations

that introduce a variety of fundamental concepts that are essential

for learning how to paint in a traditional realist oil painting style!

The two hours of solid instruction include a concise demonstration on

how to specifically mix all 12 of the colors found on the color wheel

in a variety of tones, tints and shades, in addition to a presentation

on how to successfully use the traditional color wheel!  Hall also

presents in great depth the exact oil paint colors he uses and how

they are strategically arranged on his palette.  He then describes in

great detail the various types of oil painting brushes that are used by

artists, in addition to properly using the traditional palette knife and

glass scraper!  Also, included is a thorough presentation on

professionally stretching and sizing cotton canvas, which includes

magnificent close-up details of the most ideal technique for neatly

folding canvas corners.  Hall also presents the traditional elements

and principals of design, and how concepts such as balance,

rhythm, repetition, and scale, serve as the foundation for

unity, harmony, variation, hierarchy, and proportion. A dynamic

presentation on how the the art element: value, is integral to the

overall success of a traditional realist painting is also covered.

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]-->

In volume #5 he presents two hours of fully narrated demonstrations that

introduce in great depth six unique color schemes and harmonies, including

monochromatic, analogous, complementary,cool/warm, triadic and the tetrad harmony.  In each of the demonstrations Hall paints a different California Bartlett pear and applies the six unique color schemes to six different pear paintings!  He discusses the fundamentals of simple color harmonies, opposing color harmonies and classic balanced harmonies, and reveals the pros and cons of each!  Each demonstration includes spectacular close-up shots of various colors being mixed together on the palette, and how the saturation and value of the colors are altered through both cool,

achromatic neutrals and chromatic neutrals. Prior to each demonstration,

Hall discusses how to specifically use the "color wheel" to plan out

variations of each of the color harmonies.  During the course of the

demonstrations he references many of the basic concepts and techniques

that were introduced within volumes #1-#3!

In Volume #20 my father, Hall Groat Sr., presents Ocean Sailing. My father has stated "After receiving hundreds of requests from students, professionals, art libraries and my collectors around the globe, I feel duty bound to share my joy and enthusiasm about painting with all of you. This is my first D V D and I have chosen my life long love affair with the sea and sailing as my subject matter. There exist in the world's greatest museums many thousands of wonderful seascapes. I have traveled in my art career from the Far East to Alaska and across the European continent including the birthplace of my Dutch ancestors. On my maternal side, the Pierce family were ship builders that financed early voyages to America in the sixteen hundreds. Somehow I believe my love for the sea and painting is hereditary. After studying great masters of the seascape as well as American, Winslow Homer I have decided on a different tack. My work falls loosely into the category of contemporary impressionism. And I have distain for the academic painters of the sea that rely on a formula to create waves that too often fail to have spirit or motion. No two waves ever match and those infinite variations that occur are what my work is about. In my demonstration I have used turbulent waters to show the awesome power confronted by the yachtsmen. The compositional considerations and color selections are tackled from my first stroke of the brush. The opposition from ship to sea is my immediate concern and I hammer at this point for the viewer. Hopefully it will empower the fledging or seasoned artist to reach that magical moment when their painting looks like its ready to sail from the easel to a place of honor in a home, gallery or museum."

In Volume #21, "The Irish Landscape," Hall introduces the tradition of landscape painting through a breathtaking view of the rolling hills and water of County Cork in Southern Ireland. and Edward Manet.  Using an easily understood teaching approach,

illusions to compelling atmospheric spaces, all the way to render-

ing convincing three-dimensional illusions of form and space.
