This is a Stanley No. 101-1/2 Bull Nose Wood Block Plane
This great Stanley small block plane is 3-1/2 inches long, 1-1/4 inches wide with a 1-inch-wide blade. The metal plane body is in very good condition with full black paint coverage that is thin in places from handling and use. The metal bottom is shiny clean steel with typical light signs of use, but no scratches or damage. The near full original length steel blade is shiny clean with a sharp edge ready to put to work. It is marked "Stanley" on the blade. It came along with a couple of other small Stanley tools I recently acquired that I am listing in January and February. Please check the pictures carefully for the condition of this hard to find plane.
The Stanley 100 and 101 size block planes were originally made for use by craftsmen for fine work in tight corners and on smaller projects. They are especially desired by model makers, pattern makers, and musical instrument makers. They were also quickly adopted as a convenient size for teaching children the art of woodworking. These toy size planes are also designed to be easy to use for very fine shavings because of their light weight. This Bull Nose model is very handy, but rarely found, as they were never listed or offered in Stanley tool catalogs, only from special order hardware dealers from 1880 to 1929.
Current Book Value on Stanley 101-1/2 Plane is $500 - $900.
