The2FunAdGuyz offer a package of 2 new, high-quality, reproduction prints of  two vintage, early 1900s dog show posters done by one of the greatest animal artists, George Ford Morris.  Together they will make a stunning addition to the decor of almost any room and will certainly warm the hearts of every dog lover in the world.  Morris did one poster for the 1902 Mascoutah [Illinois] Kennel Club Dog Show.  The other he did for 1901 Chicago Kennel Club Dog Show.  Here are descriptions and images for both.

1902 MASCOUTAH [ILLINOIS] KENNEL CLUB DOG SHOW POSTER

Mascoutah, Illinois is a small town not far from St. Louis and founded their kennel club in the late 1800s. This is a stunning, eye-catching poster.  The artwork features a fashionably dressed woman in a long crimson coat at a dog show.  In her arms, she carries a Boston Terrier that has a matching crimson coat.  In front of her on the leash is a black cocker spaniel that appears a bit chagrined; perhaps because he must walk while the terrier is carried.  Behind the woman is a Fox Terrier--facing towards two large Staffordshire Terriers in the background.  On the right is a large, St. Bernard.  The St. Bernard and Staffordshire Terriers in the background are done as charcoal images.  The other three dog illustrations and that of the woman are in color.

Please Note:  Morris did this artwork in 1901 for a 1902 show so some breeds and standards for those breeds have significantly changed in the over 100 years since then.

Headline: Mascoutah Kennel Club Dog Show.

Text at Bottom: First Regiment Armory, Michigan Ave. & 16th St. May 1-2-3-4.  Dogs From Both Continents.

SIGNATURE: The artist had signed the artwork for the original poster on the lower, left corner—and is reproduced here.

1901 CHICAGO KENNEL CLUB DOG SHOW POSTER

The Chicago Kennel Club’s Dog Show at the coliseum was one of the major early spring events for fashionable, mid-western people.  A well-dressed woman admires and pets three dogs, a Boston terrier, collie and an English bulldog.  While George Ford Morris’s’ specialty was to become horses, this piece—done when he was only 29, shows his ability to capture the strength and power of the animals’ bodies and magnificent heads.

Headline: “COLISEUM”.

Text Inside Poster: March 12 To 15, Admission 50 (cent sign).

Text at Bottom: CHICAGO KENNEL CLUB’S DOG SHOW.

SIGNATURE: The artist has signed the poster on the original—between the front and back legs of the boxer—and is reproduced on this poster.
