The Cathedral of Our Lady of Chartres by ND (Neurdein frères) Paris. Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Chartres ( located in Chartres) is considered one of the finest examples in France of the Gothic style of architecture. This photograph is of the West Gate whose ornament consists of: Martyrdom of Stephen, Last Judgement, Martin and Nicholas (Tympana and Lintels); Martyrs, Simon, Apostles, Christ. Jude, Confesssors, Martyrdom of Stephen, Last Judgement, Martin and Nicholas (Jamb Statues); Martyrs, Virtues and Vices, Elders of the Apocalypse, Confessors (Outer Porch Columns); Angels and Wise and Foolish Virgins, Kings and Beatitudes, Apostles and Angels (Outer Archivolts); Anne holds a Vase with a Lily, Virgin Mary, Virgin Mary with Open Book (Upper Porch Sculpture); and Angels and Wise and Foolish Virgins, Kings and Beatitudes, Apostles and Angels (Upper Porch Sculpture)

The photographs are by ND- the Neurdein brothers. They established a photographic studio in Paris in the early 1860s where they sold landscape and architectural photographs as well as portraits and continued to work into the early 1900s. A. Neurdein was born before 1840 and died after 1912 and E. Neurdein was born in circa 1845 and died after 1913 (exact dates unknown). The Neurdein brothers photographed their travels throughout Europe and entered exhibitions as they traveled. The National Portrait Gallery holds more than 10 of their photographs. In the International Guide to Nineteenth Century Photographers and Their Works, it states that ND photographs were dated from c. 1880 to 1891; Neurdein, E. photographs dated from 1860 to 1910.
