I tested many 12ax7 tubes Vintage and New Production in the phase inverter PI sockets in several amps . This Sovtek 12ax7Lps is the cream of the crop especially in Blues or Rock amps with some gain crunch going. Full Chords do not turn into Mush or over distort like most all others . Larger plate tubes generally have more lower bass than a Short plate 12ax7 . But as a V1 tube or being over driven in the OD socket it is not the best choice imop. I failed to find a better PI tube Vintage Sylvania was good but the Sovtek 12ax7Lps sounds the best . Some say it need not be a perfect balance on the Triodes and Guitar amp use it may be true . The phase inverters take high gain over driven tones and can be driven into mushy distortion but not for the Lps sovtek ! The tube lets your chords ring out every note even with CRUNCH going heavy , awesome tones are the result !!!Read full review

I gave these a try in the phono stage of my Cary SLP90 preamp. For $25 a pair they are ok; a little thin in the bottom end and scattered in the midrange. No contest when compared to NOS 12AX7 RCA black plates, but to be fair they are a third of the price. I did like them better than the reissued Mullards I had been using.

Using this in the primary tube position, in a Little Bear 12AX7 phono stage, nuances and solidity improve. More of a sense of 3D perception arrives. Using two more in a Yaqin MS84L amp, gives more of the same, as well as a subjective 1/2 an octave deeper extension. Well made, beautiful product instills confidence, and pride of ownership. Highly recommended.

A very good replacement for many stock 12AX7's that come with new equipment.

Sounds great. Nice smooth overdrive and clear cleans. I tried other tubes these really make my amp sound it's best. When I bought the amp is came stock with Sovtek. I tried JJ's and Groove tubes and went back to Sovtek. I guess certain amps sound best with certain tubes. I'm sticking with Sovtek. My ears agree.
