BEAUTIFUL STEEL HULL, FANTAIL, PILOTHOUSE CUTTER   needs saving  NOW

Steel hull sailboat presently on land in Rindge, NH, about 40 miles from deep water. 46 feet long, steel hull with fair lines (no hard chines, like typical steel boat).

Some rust spots starting on outside, but still has about 90% original paint. Inside hull paint condition is excellent. Pilothouse amidships.  Mast steps on tabernacle (large hinge), like typical in Holland.  Rounded stern also Dutch style.  Interior wired for 110 volt with large fresh water tank. Had 3 large bus batteries. Front v-berth and salon are finished with paneling and painted surfaces.  Amidships are the galley and head, which have been roughed in and brought to working condition, but are unfinished. Aft are an aft cabin which has only a rear bulkhead and a few rough panels, and a deck locker aftmost.  Floor is gray carpet in v berth, salon, and galley. The pilot house is stripped down to the plywood floor and bulkheads.  Wiring and gauges are included in milk crates.  Glass is paricularly easy to replace - it is sandwiched between two flanges with a lot of bolts. (same basic design. for large pilothouse windows as well as the hull portholes.

Motor is Detroit 2-53, two cylinder water cooled supercharged diesel, taken apart for rebuild.  Parts look ok but need measuring. Included rebuilt Borg Warner transmission will accept a variety of more modern motors also. Fuel tank is 80 gal, built in to aft part of keel.  Mast is 6X10 extruded aluminum and is missing the top section beyond 30 feet. Sails include main and a jib.. Has large electric winch on bow (capstan) probably used as anchor windlass as well as mast raising. 13 foot beam, 6'8" draft, 20 Ton Gross, 18 Ton net, Built in USA (Hans Atwood), presently documented. Fixed bronze propeller. Full keel. Includes construction study plans.

Storage at its present location over the winter may be included.

Original name was Lo Ki. Was trucked from Key Largo, FL to NH at a cost of $9600.  Craned into place for another $2000. Local crane company info available.  Now sits on a four station wooden cradle.  Drawing is of a slightly smaller sister ship "Argonauta". It is a J Benford designed 45 foot cutter, to be cold molded or built of steel with hard or soft chines.  A Wooden Boat article (WB #77) describes the building of the cold molded version for the author, Stephen L Davis.

Photo package available by email (need your email address to send it). The photo package will not go through the eBay system.  Package includes interior and motor part photos, and page from Cruising Designs describing design features. Appointments to see in person - call 603-340-6219.
