On the strength of reviews and recommendations comparing Terry Pratchett to Mark Twain and Small Gods to Twain's "Letters From The Earth" I ordered in a copy. As I recall the book was listed as being in "acceptable" condition but my experience has been that Goodwill/ Salvation Army-type resellers invariably low-grade their offerings and price them low, too. In this I was not disappointed. Pratchett's writing, however, left me largely bored and annoyed although I admit there were several laugh-out-loud scenes or plays on words... well, if you can roll with inquisition jokes. I can. But Pratchett is no Twain and unless you're a bright young person fumbling to formulate a personal philosophy to deal with the B.S. you're told about life, society, and religion with what you can plainly see, save your time and money for a better read.Read full review

I haven’t finished reading it yet, but I read the first few pages and am already in love with his writing style. He has an excellent sense of humor that draws me in.

One of my favorite of Pratchett's works. As always, he treats sensitive subjects with empathy and grace while also being sharply satirical. I have bought this book several times because I loan it out and every time I do, I never get it back!
