1986 United Kingdom Gold Sovereign This auction is for a 1986 United Kingdom Gold Proof Sovereign Coin. The Royal Mint only issued a maximum of 17,500 £5 Brilliant Uncirculated 1986 dated gold coins for world-wide distribution. This coin is numbered 00901. The reverse depicts St. George horseback slaying the dragon, first used on United Kingdom gold coins in 1817. The obverse bears the new effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The £5 sovereign weighs 39.94 grams, measures 36.02mm in diameter and is struck in 22-karat gold. This coin comes in a capsule with Certificate of Authenticity and box.
