1985 United Kingdom Gold Proof Sovereign This auction is for a 1985 United Kingdom Gold Proof Sovereign Coin. The Royal Mint only issued a maximum of 25,000 proof sovereigns for world-wide distribution. This coin is numbered 04176. The reverse depicts St. George horseback slaying the dragon, first used on United Kingdom gold coins in 1817. The obverse bears the new effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The sovereign weighs 7.98 grams, measures 22.05mm in diameter and is struck in 22-karat gold. This coin comes in a capsule with Certificate of Authenticity and box.
