Item Details

For your consideration is this vintage 1981 Gibson Les Paul Standard electric guitar. This particular example, serial number 80851540, is in very nice 100% original condition and includes the original Gibson hard shell case! This attractive Les Paul Standard features a beautiful Tobacco Sunburst finish and though it is clearly in very fine condition, still has considerable vintage vibe! Les Paul Standards made in the 1970s and early '80s are actually quite rare, as Les Paul Deluxes and Les Paul Customs were more plentiful, so take advantage of this No Reserve auction with FREE WORLDWIDE SHIPPING, as the highest bidder will win regardless of price!

Serial Number: 80851540
Pot Codes: 1378004, 1377902
Pickup Date Stamps: 499 381, 498 481
Pickup Resistance: 7.51Ω and 7.31Ω
PU Patent Number: 2737842
Weight: 10 lbs. 4 oz.

This 1981 Gibson Les Paul Standard features; a 3-piece maple top, a 3-piece maple neck, a non-sandwich slab body construction, a tobacco sunburst finish with corresponding tobacco-shaded back and sides, (2) Pat. No. "Tim Shaw" humbuckers, the Gibson pantograph headstock logo (’69-’84), trapezoid Mother of Pearl inlays, Gibson stamped Kluson Deluxe tuners, chrome hardware, and the original Protector hard shell case.

As mentioned, this Les Paul Standard is 100% ALL ORIGINAL. There are NO modifications, NO cracks, NO breaks, NO repairs, NO replaced parts, NO nothing. The original finish looks very nice. It does exhibit some typical and expected playing wear, although the finish is unfaded and shows no signs of weather checking. The only fret wear visible is on the first three frets. There are expected dings, and superficial belt buckle wear on the back of the guitar, though nothing distracting nor significant.

With regard to functionality, this Les Paul is great. The medium-sized open C-shape neck profile is perfectly straight. The action is low, and the guitar is easy to play. Both pickups work efficiently and sound great, all pots work smoothly and all corresponding hardware is in excellent condition.

This guitar weighs a moderate 10 lbs 4 oz., but remember, unlike most of the Les Pauls made today, this guitar is solid and not chambered!

The case is in good condition and shows it’s been holding this guitar inside for many years. All latches work perfectly and the case does not exhibit any odors.

This Les Paul is a superb investment piece. I recently sold a nearly identical Les Paul is slightly worse condition for over $3,000.00, so don't miss out on this deal, as the highest bidder will win regardless of price!

(For those who recognize this auction, the guitar was re-listed due to a photo hosting error. Thanks!)

Q: Hi... I'm interested in this guitar but this is the third listing for this item that I've seen. Can you explain the latest reason this has been relisted ?? Thanks !!!
A: Hi there, Yes, the first time it was listed, it was a Buy it Now/Best Offer. The second time, the high bidder from Malaysia (with 3 feedback) didn't pay. So this is hopefully the last auction. Best of luck! -VintageFX
