Extraordinary 1973 Raleigh Professional. These were the top of the line Raleighs that the team rode to win the Tour de France “back in the day”…  Frame is fully lugged Reynolds 531 lightweight steel hand made in Carlton England. It is in amazing shape with original blue mink color scheme and all decals intact. One spot on top tube that somebody primed probably after the original cable stop rusted, but it is minor. No other rust.  I chased the bottom bracket threads, faced it and shot Boeshield into the whole frame. Small scrub on bottom bracket where somebody slipped taking out the cups.

Built up with modern components as follows: Brand new Campy Centaur front derailleur. Brand new Campy Veloce rear derailleur. Brand new Campy Veloce dual pivot brakes. Drivetrain is currently Shimano 7 speed STI integrated levers, 12-28 hyperglide cassette (both gently used), brand new SRAM pc890 chain, and gently used classic Campy Record cranks 172.5 length and 53/39 original rings. Hubs are bombproof White Industries made in USA. Super smooth and will last a lifetime. Laced 3 cross with 14G to NOS Matrix Aurora rims also made in USA. I hand built the wheels myself – they are solid. Stem is Nitto Technomic, h-bar is Italmo aluminum, headset is original Campy that I repacked. Nice and smooth. Seatpost is 27.2 fluted Laprade, and saddle is a used Bontrager which is soft but not bad. All new housing and cables for the brakes and shifters. Tires are Schwalbe Blizzards with maybe 200 miles on ‘em.

For an additional $400, the lucky winner can upgrade to brand new 10 speed Campy Veloce shift brake levers with new cables and housing, brand new Campy Centaur 10 S cassette 13-26, brand new Campy Centaur 10s chain, and Campy wheelset (Mirage rear and Veloce front hubs laced to excellent Araya 700C rims). This would give you essentially a brand new fully Campagnolo equipped 2 x 10 speed racing bike with classic geometry and frame feel.

Shipping is going out of sight through UPS, so I apologize for that cost. Local pick-up is great or arrange to meet me somewhere near western NC. Good Luck!!!

Extraordinary late 1970's Raleigh Professional. (NOT 1973 AS IN TITLE. Sorry for the confusion)

Q: FYI, This frame set is not a 1973, that year came only with Bramton Fastback Seat Stays. That year also had slopping crown fork, chromed, with chromed tips on the forks and rear stays. This is a 1979 to 1980 Professional by... Continue reading
A: "The more I learn, the less I know." Thanks to several savvy Raleigh collectors who date this bike frame from the late 1970's rather than '73. JWH
