INVENTORY # 5378
BRAND - FENDER
MODEL - Bandmaster
FUNCTION - Vintage Tube Combo Guitar Amplifier
DESCRIPTION - This listing is for a heavily modified vintage FENDER 1955 "Narrow Panel" Bandmaster 3x10 Tube Amp Combo owned and used by legendary musician, Jeff "Skunk" Baxter.
We recently had the privilege of cracking open Jeff's storage locker full of gear that has been in sealed for the last 30+ years! A treasure-trove of gear is being posted for sale in our store.
ACCESSORIES - Includes vintage "Doobie Brothers" stenciled rolling amp flight case and 2 vintage RCA power tubes which were just taken out of the amp which were noisy. Included with the amp will be a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Jeff Baxter.
PHYSICAL CONDITION - Good. Considering its age. Chassis and frame are solid. The original tweed covering is still on the cabinet but was long-ago covered in a black tolex which is in decent condition and has served adequately to protect the amp. We do not know the condition of the tweed or what effect the tolex has had on it.
WORKING CONDITION - Very Good. Works great.
Recently examined and serviced by our neighbor and Los Angeles amp guru, Bob Dixon. This is what was done:
Tested tubes, caps, replaced bad/worn caps. Noisy power tubes [and replaced] , replaced ac cable (no strain relief/ground), broken fuse holder, installed correct v3 (12ax7 not 12at7), biased, re-soldered suspect joints, cleaned tube sockets, pins, pots, jacks, chassis, tightened hardware.
The amp has been heavily modified and is by no means "original".
It has a non-original output transformer, caps, pots, speakers, Tolex covering (instead of Tweed), AC cable, and solid state rectifier mod. None of those original parts are included or available.
For someone looking for an involved restoration project, this could a fun. Or you can keep it just as Jeff had it and enjoy it for its historical sound and provenance.
Regardless, it is a once-in-lifetime opportunity to own not only a great vintage and rare amp, but one that had its place in musical history.
ACTUAL WEIGHT - 71 lbs (Amp Only), 112.5 lbs (Amp and Case)
ACTUAL DIMS -26" x 30.5" x 13" (Including Case)
