1952 St. Louis Browns vs. Boston Red Sox Program
Sportsman's Park, June 19
Final score - Red Sox 2 - Browns 0
8 pages, pre-printed lineups, top of the first scored in ink.
Excellent condition. "1952" and "Boston" written in pencil on the front cover. There's a 2 3/4" stain on the left-center of the back cover. Original owner signed Billy Hunter's name in ink on the back cover and Hunter's, Don Larsen's and Ted Williams' names in ink on the scorecard. Tight binding, all of the other pages are clean and intact. There's a tiny tear on the bottom-center edge of the front cover and 1/8" split at the base of the spine.
1952 St. Louis Browns program - Here's a great Browns program from the '52 season from a mid-June game against the Red Sox at Sportsman's Park.
The game turned into a great pitching duel between Boston's Ike Delock and Ken Holcombe of the Browns. Delock stymied the Browns lineup, limiting them to five hits and no runs and evened his record to 3-3. Holcombe lasted just 2 1/3 innings, gave up a run and had his record drop to 0-6. George Kell had a pair of hits and an RBI for Boston, and Jim Rivera was the only St. Louis batter who had much success against Delock, collecting a pair of hits.
The program condition is noted above. It includes an article on the Browns' home opponents in May (although the scorecard is for the June 19 game). There are several photos of Browns minor leaguers and a great action photo of Gordon Goldsberry and Leo Thomas scoring a pair of runs for the Browns in a game in April. There are also small photos of Clint Courtney and Bob Nieman and a notes column.
The Red Sox lineup - Dom DiMaggio, Billy Goodman, Charlie Maxwell, Kell, Archie Wilson, Dick Gernert, Johnny Lipon, Del Wilber and Delock.
The Browns starting nine - Bob Young, Jim Rivera, Jim Delsing, Nieman, Dick Kryhoski, Darrell Johnson, Freddie Marsh, Marty Marion and Holcombe.
