This auction is for a beautiful vintage Mersman Game table from the 1940's. I bought it a long time ago from an antique dealer in Aurora, Oregon. I did have it appraised and this was the information that I received back:
This game table is a Colonial Revival reproduction of game tables from the Federal period of the early 19th century. My latest Mersman catalog is from 1942 and the highest model number in it is 6602 so your table was made after that, probably in the late 1940s. No tables were made during the War. The fold over top is made of flat cut Honduran mahogany veneer. You can see the five layers of the lumber core plywood that makes up the top by looking at the edges of tops from behind the table when folded shut. Lumber core plywood is illustrated and explained in my book. The rest of the table is made of secondary wood, probably red gum with a mahogany finish. It does not appear to have been refinished. PLEASE REVIEW ALL PHOTOS AND ASK ALL QUESTIONS BEFORE BIDDING. THIS ITEM IS FOR LOCAL PICKUP ONLY UNLESS YOU WANT TO PAY FOR FREIGHT CHARGES. IF SO, EMAIL ME. BUYER NEEDS TO MAKE ALL ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE FREIGHT COMPANY INCLUDING PACKING. THANKS FOR LOOKING! |
