Okay all you yuppies, artists and loft-dwellers! I have yet another wonderful GF Goodform office chair for you this week, much like the others you may have seen; this one has leather upholstery, and I must say..... in rather good condition for its age.
It's these vintage industrial all steel aluminum chairs that will outlast us, they can't be compared to todays modern office furniture by any means. This chair is waiting to roll up to a vintage tanker desk and sit among other industrial furniture. Don't let this opportunity pass you by.These chairs are highly sought after and are now becoming rare in their form.
This chair was manufactured in the 1940's during WW ll by The General Fireproofing Co. in Youngstown Oh.
Known to be designed by Raymond Loewy who's team designed the Studebaker Avanti automobile.
the general fireproofing company was founded in 1902 in youngstown, ohio, manufacturing fireproof building materials. during the panic of 1907, when all building practically ceased, the company decided to emphasize their line steel office furniture. their first 4-drawer steel vertical file was built in 1910, and their first fireproof safe was introduced in 1912. in 1923 general fireproofing decided to produce a standardized steel desk which could be made on an assembly line. by the 1950s, these were the largest selling commercial office desks in the world. the worlds first all-aluminum office chair was designed by the alcoa company in 1924. in 1929 general fireproofing began manufacturing their own aluminum office chairs. the goodform seating line began in august of 1932 with additional models introduced in 1935. during world war ll, general fireproofing ceased production of all its regular products in order to manufacture aircraft parts. after the war, almost the entire plant had to be converted back to the manufacture of furniture, and by 1946 the company was producing the same volume they were in 1938. in 1948, they introduced the mode-maker line of executive office desks, designed in collaboration with raymond loewy.
The chair has a fabulous Art Deco style propeller base. The chair has a 360 swivel with an adjustable seat height and 4 original rubber casters. One caster will need replaced.
Remember, this chair would have been used along side the Goodform tanker panel tables and desks a time when things were manufactured and built to last, this chair is over 70 yr's old and has many more years of use left in it.
The chair is adjustable, the lowest height is 17" and adjusts to 20" high. This is upholstered in a dark green leather.
the chair has your normal vintage wear, the condition is fair, not excellent due to the wear on the leather and one caster needing replaced, all signs of wear are visible in photos.
I will be more than happy to ship the chair through Greyhound bus lines for $55.00, however; the winning bidder is responsible for pick up from the bus station within 72 hours after it arrives. A contact number must be provided for this service. Please let me know if you prefer Greyhound otherwise the chair will ship through USPS.
Local pick-up is welcome in the Kansas city area.

Bidding Tips for the New User
If you are among the less experienced eBay users, the following thoughts may help you better understand this particular auction format and bidding process. Unlike traditional auctions that continue until the item is won by a determined bidder as the competitors voluntarily drop out, eBay auctions are won by the bidder who has submitted the highest dollar amount before a precise, time certain close. The matter of who's bid is on top at the final tick of the clock, regardless of anyone's desire to continue, has spawned the bidding method referred to as "sniping". Here is an explanation to consider.
"Sniping", a legitimate and common practice of placing a bid in the final moments of an auction, is the strategy of choice for many eBay users attempting to win an item. It is based on the notion that a surprise bid in the final seconds is the best way to win because it places the current high bidder in the off balance position of not being able to submit another, higher bid before time runs out. (Of course, that plan can backfire when the "sniper" finds he or she did not bid enough to overcome the current highest bidder, and the time to try again has run out.) Now, software has been developed to do the bidders sniping automatically, leaving the less informed and prepared even more frustrated for having tried in the first place. (Sound familiar anyone?)
What to do? I would suggest, especially if you are relatively new to this bidding process, you should consider placing your bid now and securing a chance to win. Please be aware that the electronic proxy bidding method places and/or increases your bid only in the amount needed to keep you the high bidder, not a penny more. Only as your maximum bid amount is needed to keep you the current high bidder is the total ever used. No one can see your maximum bid, only the amount that is keeping you the current high bidder. If you simply contemplate the maximum you would pay for this (or any other) item and bid that amount, you will never pay more than what you were willing, and may indeed pay substantially less. Unlike the sniper who places a last second do-or-die bid, if you bid early and find you are outbid anytime during the auction, you can re-evaluate your desire to have the item and bid again in a higher amount or simply pass on the item, knowing it went for a price beyond the value you placed on it.
Avoid frustration and anxiety: Decide your maximum, bid now, and let it go at that.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!!
