This is a terrific, old, maroon transfer printed Sioux City, Iowa decorative plate from Vernon Kilns, one of the well known big five of the "California Pottery" group.

The vintage (1950) plate celebrates Sioux City's one hundred years from 1850 to 1950 and depicts a wide variety of classic and historic Sioux City scenes
(please see photos below) including:
  • The Woodbury County Courthouse
  • Floyd Monument (Sgt. Charles Floyd, First White Man, 1804)
  • Municipal Auditorium
  • New Post Office
  • Central High School
  • New City Hall
  • Council Oak Tree
  • Granview Bandshell
The back of the plate includes the under-glaze maroon inscription:

This charming, Vernon Kilns "ultra" rim form plate is approximately 10 3/8 inches in diameter and is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or restorations. 

The rim is decorated with a Wild Prairie Rose floral theme and the "Sioux City Sue" music.

A highly desirable plate for collectors of classic Vernon Kilns California Pottery, Iowa and midwestern historical memorabilia, and retail advertising memorabilia (Sioux City Crockery). 

It would also make a thoughtful gift for that alumnus or alumna from the area's many fine educational institutions, e.g., University of Iowa, Iowa State University, Drake, Northern Iowa University, and the like.
