| Very Rare and wonderful, original, 1934, George M. Cohan / Fox Film Corporation Theater Owner's Promotional Book / Pop-Up-Book for the Film "Gambling" written, produced and starring George M. Cohan himself. This amazing, hard cover Promotional Book features a fantastic, central "pop-up" tableaux featuring a wonderful, die cut image of Cohan inside a Movie Theater Box Office!!!
This fascinating Motion Picture Promotional Book is titled on the front cover "America's Most Successful Showman in / A Showman's Picture / Produced by Showmen / For Showmen". The cover also includes a wonderful, Art Deco style, stylized dollar sign. The Book measures approx. 7" by 8 3/4" and is bound in hardcover. The interior includes only six pages (including full use of the inside front and rear covers). The first page (inside front cover) features a portrait of George M. Cohan with text touting his many successes on stage, in music, as a writer, actor, producer and song writer. The page facing this one features a similar treatment of producer Harold B. Franklin. The final 2 pages of the Book feature a wonderful double page advert for the Film being promoted - "Gambling" - "George M. Cohan's Mile-A-Minute Mystery Melodrama" presented by Fox Film Corporation.
It is the central pages, however, that make this Movie Promo Book so fantastic. The 2 central pages feature a wonderful "pop-up" tableaux featuring a Movie Theater Box Office in the center with a die cut, bust portrait of George M. Cohan rising up from the center of the booth. The pages them selves are printed with stacks of gold coins, bags of money and stacks of dollar bills. A pop-up panel in the front features more stacks and bags of money along with an image of a Movie Theater and of a theater speaker (to emphasize that this was a "talkie"). Scattered among the "money" images are some of Cohan's greatest hite - "Give My Regards to Broadway", "Over There", "Miracle Man", etc.
Although the Book is not dated, we know that the Fox Film "Gambling" was released in 1934 and that it had a VERY short theatrical run (apparently the Film was poorly produced and poorly received by the public). It is marked on the rear cover - "Brochure created by A. P. Waxman" and "Art: Lane, Friedlander".
This VERY rare and simply fantastic, George M. Cohan 1934 Pop-Up Theater Owner's Promotional Book is in very good condition. It is bound in its original, hard covers which are intact and sound with some light soiling and a few small spots of staining.. The interior pages are in excellent condition - complete, tight, clean and crisp throughout. The Pop-Up tableaux is exceptionally well preserved with no tears, wear, damage or repairs of any kind.
A VERY RARE and wonderful, 1934 George M. Cohan Theater Owner's Promotional Volume / Pop-Up Book for the Film "Gambling" and a fantastic addition to any collection!!!
