1922-23 Kolb’s Mothers’ Bread Pins (PB4)

Over a two-year period, Kolb’s bakery sponsored a series of pins featuring members of the Reading (Pa.) Aces of the International League. The pins are 7/8" in diameter with black-and-white portraits on a white background. The player name (last name only, usually) and position are indicated beneath the photo. Above the photo, in red, is the sponsor’s identification. The pins issued in 1922 have “MOTHERS’” in all capital letters; the 1923 pins have “Mothers’” in upper and lower case.

 

These pins are similar to the Topps, Old London, Armour, Chips Salada, MLBPA, Shirriff coins, PM10, Yellow Basepath, Orbit and Caproal Pins but are much scarcer because they were issued in boxes of cigarettes.
