Postcard of Sailing Ship “Baron Aberdare”, a 3 Masted Iron ship built in 1874 by W Watson & Sons, Sunderland for James McCann, Greenock. She capsized in Victoria Dock, London in 1883, her masts and rigging had to be cut away before she could be raised. In 1885 she was sold to Reck & Boyes, Bremen and renamed “Katherine”. In 1896 she was resold to C. Zernichow & O. Gotaas, Kristiania and renamed “Akershus”. In 1901 she was stranded and wrecked at Sunbawa Island, Sapel Strait, Indonesia on a passage from Philadelphia to Yokohama. This Photo Postcard is in good condition and has not been used postally.
