|Very rare, original, 1889 Allen & Ginter Tobacco Company Premium Chromolithographed Tobacco Card Album titled "Album of the Paris Exhibition 1889" which features 12 fantastic, chromolithograph pages, each featuring images from the World's Fair held at Paris 1889 and featuring the Eiffel Tower, which served as both symbol of and the entrance arch to the Fair. This Album is designated as Tobacco Album A23 in the American Card Catalog.
This very rare Premium Album measures approx. 6" x 9 1/4" and contains 12 leaves (plus the front and rear covers) printed on a light to medium weight, card stock. Each page features stunningly beautiful, chromolithographed views from the Fair. All of the leaves are blank backed except for the page preceding the image of the Eiffel Tower which features text describing the Eiffel Tower - "one of the Wonders of the World and... reached the highest altitude of any on the Earth". The Chromolithography is of the VERY highest quality and although the Album is not signed by the printer, it is believed that the plates were lithographed by Lindner, Eddy and Clauss of New York City.
Of special interest (besides the view of the newly constructed Eiffel Tower) is the full page view of the Allen & Ginter Tobacco Company Exhibit as it appeared at the Fair with fantastic Advertising Signs, Banners and Displays.
While at first, Souvenir Tobacco Albums of this type were intended to replace the individual tobacco cards if the smoker desired, they proved so popular that other Albums (such as the one offered here) which did not relate to specific Tobacco Card series were produced and offered. They were purchased with 75 to 100 coupons packed with brands of Allen & Ginter cigarettes. While Cigarette / Tobacco Cards were free in packs of Cigarettes or Tobacco these Albums had to be purchased (or stamps had to be sent in for postage charges) and because of this the Albums are now much rarer and highly desirable.
This very rare, 1889 Allen & Ginter Tobacco Company, Chromolithographed, Tobacco Card / Premium Album is bound its original wrappers which are in very good condition. The front cover has some light edge wear and light soiling as can be seen in the scans below. There rear cover is detached with chipping along the spine edge and a crease in the lower left hand quadrant. The interior pages are clean and crisp with brilliant colors. We have included scans of all pages to illustrate the condition completely.

Important Notes about Shipping Charges:
The amount quoted for Shipping & Handling is calculated by eBay and is equal to the EXACT amount charged by the Post Office plus a $1.00 "packing fee" - the $1.00 fee is our only compensation for the virgin packing materials we use on all of our professionally packaged boxes as well as our cost for the salaried help that does most of our packing - as I am sure you can see, we make NO profit on the Shipping charges and, in fact, our costs are usually greater than the $1.00 fee. Please contact us if there are any issues regarding the cost of shipping.
