Up for auction is a quite rare and early Rand McNally map, in original brown pebbled cloth case, entitled RAND McNALLY & CO.’s SPAIN AND PORTUGAL, published in 1881. Folds out to about 14” x 21”. With inset maps of Madrid and Lisbon.

Map is unusual in that it comes in its own case, and was not removed from an early atlas, which is how Rand McNally’s maps are commonly found today. Folds neatly into a 4” x 6-1/2” case. No descriptive text, although there may have previously been a small booklet on the inside front cover. However, I couldn’t locate other copies of this particular pocket map anywhere, so do not have another to compare. Map is in wonderful condition, and does not appear to have ever been used for travel or otherwise. Case bright and clean, and gilt-stamped lettering bright. Good luck!
