1852 Brewster Beehive Clock
This listing is for an 1852 Brewster Beehive 8 Day Clock. Beehive clocks were so called because of their similarity to actual beehives. This style of clock was popular from the 1840s to 1880s. Brewster Manufacturing Co. was formed after the firm of Brewster and Ingraham was dissolved in 1852. It produced clocks from 1852-1854.
The label on this clock has deteriorated, but "Brewster Manufact…." is still visible. The movement is stamped Brewster and Ingraham. The clock is in good running order and has been cleaned and tuned. The strike mechanism is not working properly. It is a very unusual strike mechanism. You can leave the strike feature unwound and use this as a time clock only. Or find someone with knowledge repairing this type of strike mechanism.
The case is rosewood. There is some wear, as one might expect from a 159 year old clock body. But nothing that is a major detraction from the appearance of the case. There are a few repairs to the veneer (see pix). The bottom front glass is a replacement. Clock stands approx. 18-3/4 inches tall, 10.5 inches wide and 4 inches deep. Overall, a very nice antique clock. Please note: This is an antique clock and does not come with any guarantee or warranty. It is working now, but old clocks regularly need repair. We recommend an experienced clock repair person buy this clock...someone who can give it the attention it deserves and will need. 10 LBs boxed.
