1755 Vosgien Map - L'Europe

Dictionnaire Geographique Portatif was a very succesful publication during the second half of the eighteenth century. The author is a 'M. Vosgien' who turns out to be a priest from Lorraine (thus 'Vosges'), Jean-Baptiste Ladvocat. This popular work always contained two fine maps, Europe and the World, from an unknown engraver and was published by Didot in Paris.

This map of Europe is from the 1755 edition of the atlas. It includes a large Poland, Hungary, Turkey in Europe, a large Germany, the kingdom of Sweden, the British Isles, Russia in Europe, and Iceland. The major cities are noted. 

The map measures 6" by 7.5" with two folds (as issued), has later outline hand colouring, and is in fair condition with creasing of the paper, a reinforcement to a separation along one of the folds, and a small reinforcement to a nick in the right border. 

The map is guaranteed to be over 250 years old.
