You probably know of Chilton’s manuals, as they are in every auto store in the U.S. But did you know that in the 1950’s and 1940’s, Chilton was the bible of car mechanics everywhere? They were the industry leader, and when you feel and see this huge manual, you will note the title was not exaggerated……………..
Up for your consideration and bid is the world known Chilton's 1949 Motor Age Flat Rate and Service Manual, 20th Edition (copyright 1949). This is the definitive manual for the auto collector and restorer. It covers all American made cars and trucks from 1939 to 1949 and is in Excellent PLUS shape, pages Near MINT! This 1108 page bible of auto mechanics costs $12.00 in 1949, which was a lot of money in those days. You will see why...........
Although originally for the professional car mechanic, where he/she could estimate the cost of a repair, this manual is actually more valuable now because of the fantastic references to part numbers and diagrams. As you see from the pictures, it details all the parts for the complete automobile. For instance, in the index section, the manual covers labor and parts for the:
Front End Systems, Steering, Independent Front Suspension, Brakes, and.......
Power and Vacuum Brakes, Cooling Systems, Manifold Gaskets, Fuel Systems, and......
Muffler and Exhaust Systems, Engine and Engine Assembly inc. Inspection, Tuning and Cylinder work, and ....
Clutch, Flywheel, and Transmissions, U-Joints, Axles, and Shocks, and.....
Ignition, Generator/Starters, and Switches, Fenders, Wheels/Hubs, and Body and Frame work! WOW!
The book is divided into two sections, with the first 583 pages covering the flat rate. This is where you find those great part numbers! In the next section, which has 625 pages, it really gets into the meat and potatoes of repairing and restoring the classic automobile, even a Body and Frame chapter for the amatuer body man (person).
Every car and truck is detailed like this. And there is much more...........at the start of every section is the information on engine size, ID, serial numbers, body type, and specs for that particular auto. Great Info!!
If that's not enough, exploded diagrams and illustrations fill this huge book, which is 1208 pages long! This is a perfect addition to your garage library.
This book covers: Buick, Cadillac, Chevy, Chrysler, Crosley, DeSoto, Dodge, Ford, Frazer, Hudson, Kaiser, LaSalle, Lincoln, Mercury, Nash (inc Lafayette). Olds, Packard, Plymouth, Pontiac, Studebaker, and Willys (inc Jeep).
Again, this book is in Excellent PLUS shape, pages Near MINT!
