Bamberg - Reign of Leopold I- Legal brief of Peter Philipp von Dernbach (1619-1683), Prince Bishop of Bamberg and Wuerzburg, was the Prince-Bishop of Bamberg from 1672 to 1683 and Prince-Bishop of Würzburg from 1675 to 1683. He was appointed Bishop of Bamberg on March 22, 1672, with Pope Clement X confirming his appointment on January 28, 1675. He was ordained as a priest on May 19, 1675. He was consecrated as a bishop by Damian Hartard von der Leyen-Hohengeroldseck, Archbishop of Mainz, on June 2, 1675. He was appointed Bishop of Würzburg in July 1675, with the pope confirming this appointment on February 24, 1676. This created a personal union between the Prince-Bishopric of Bamberg and the Prince-Bishopric of Würzburg. He died of a stroke on April 24, 1683. This vellum document dated July 14, 1679, measures 200 x 375 mm. and contains a Calligraphic headline, 26-lines of handwritten German script and original signature of the bishop. The hanging seal is in a wood skippet missing cover and the seal. This document contains some staining and minor wear in the folds.
