INCLUDES  OLD AND NEW TESTAMENT,  NEW TESTAMENT and WHOLE BOOK OF PSALMS!


Well worn but Rare and ORIGINAL 17th Century binding, measuring 9 x 7.5 x 2.5 inches. The Bible still demonstrates raised bands, leather covered boards and intact hinge in the rear, but fronbt board detached; although as a specimen is very worn with rounding & loss to the leather spine, and rounding, it is still holding onto the same outer parts it carried during the late 1640s.

 The Bible is printed in two columns with frequent notes and marginal commentary.

Interior in acceptable condition; much of it is in great shape. 

Details as follows:

Bible complete minus the OT titlepage  & one leaf in Genesis (which could possibly be mislocated with other text) and starts at Genesis - there are no Genealogies with this bible as issued.

 

Internally the OT title page is missing. Starting with first page of Genesis. There is 1" deep x 2.5" wide chip to the foot of the Genesis page with some light marginalization along the leading edges of this same page. Very odd occasional odd manuscript hand Eighteenth century sepia inscription - most notably some family births and deaths to the last blank leaf of the OT relating to an 17-18th century family, as shown. One page missing between ch XXIII & XXVI of Genesis (doesn't appear to have ever been bound in on this binding). Tiny chip to bottom left corner of Chap 4 of Exodus. Small chip to leading edge of Chap 25 of Exodus and some marginalization of leading blank edge of the next two leaves.

 

Deutoronomie Cap 23 v16 to Joshua Chap 15 v18  misbound & found at Kings Chap 19 v8. Chap 2 v4 of Nahum to Chap 7 v5 of Zechariah  also misbound and  found in the middle of Isaiah Chap 7 v3 (no pages actually missing here;  just misbound). A number of small light spots to Chap 11 & 12 of Corinthinans. 1.5" deep chip to bottom right corner of Third Epistle of John leaf. Some fraying to bottom edge of last leaf of the Tables for the whole number of Psalms / Imprint of Company of stationers. The rear blank endpaper has a large chunk out of it and some pencil notes.

 

The New Testament title page is in great condition and remains Dated 1649 by the Company of Stationers.




Although a  historical find, and a treasure that only few can call their own. Good luck!!
