Offered here is a 1643 Blaeu edition of ancient Roman classic in Latin language:

"M. Annaei Lucani Pharsalia sive de Bello Civili Caesaris et Pompeji Lib. X.  Additae sunt in fine Hugonis Grotii notae ex binis antehac editis junctae ,auctae ,correctae et Thomae Farnabii..."

The Pharsalia (also known as De Bello Civili "On the Civil War" or also simply Bellum Civile "The Civil War") is a Roman epic poem by the poet Lucan, telling of the civil war between Julius Caesar and the forces of the Roman Senate led by Pompey the Great.

The poem's title is a reference to the Battle of Pharsalus, which occurred in 48 BC, near Pharsalus, Thessaly, in northern Greece.

Caesar decisively defeated Pompey in this battle, which occupies all of the epic's seventh book. Though probably incomplete, the poem is widely considered the best epic poem of the Silver Age of Latin literature... (from Wikipedia)

With extensive scholarly commentaries by Grotius and Farnabius.

Text in Latin.

With an attractive engraved title page.

Printed by the famous cartographer and printer Joan Blaeu : Amsterodami, apud Ioannem Blaeuw, 1643.

Very Good antiquarian condition, 12mo (5 1/2inches tall) in a fine red period calf binding with gilt vignettes and gold lettering. The binding is worn but sound. A bit chipped at corners and at top and bottom of the spine. Internally Very Good. The right margin of the title page torn off without any loss to image or text. A few pages a bit dampstained at margins - text not affected. The binding is reasonably tight, no loose, torn or missing pages, complete with 336 pages.

A complete, very readable and very collectable 370 years old book.
