The picture of the four young men below is of Awaken the Empire. They are friends of mine, a rock band from Los Angeles, and some of the most endearing people you will ever meet. While on the first leg of a tour supporting Eyes Set to Kill, their van was stolen. It only took the thieves 15 seconds to get in the van, start it up and get out of the parking lot. In fifteen seconds, the lives of these precious people are forever changed. 

They lost all of their instruments, their sound gear, their clothes, glasses, retainers, ipods, personal sentimental things… EVERYTHING. Luckily they had their phones on them to be able to start the monumental task of piecing their livelihood back together. 

Their insurance will cover the cost of the van, but NOTHING else. None of their belongings are covered by insurance, and were all things that these people spent years scraping together the money to accumulate. All of their merchandise was in the van as well, giving them nothing to sell at the moment to try to recoup their losses.

If you’ve ever had something stolen, especially on a large scale, then you understand what a violation it is. And even through all of this trauma, one of the first things they did was apologize to me for not being able to play, since they knew I was celebrating my birthday by going to the concert. They APOLOGIZED for having their van stolen and being unable to play.
