|Year:||1996||Character Family:||Magic the Gathering|
I played Magic: The Gathering in middle school, from about 1996 to 1998. I'm 29 years old now and don't have any need for these cards anymore. All I have left from my collection is my 'book' - the cards I would bring around to tournaments and to play with friends to offer for trade. So this was the cream of the crop of my collection of a couple of thousand cards at the time. It's therefore a concentrated block of uncommons and rares (or commons from sets which were out of print even at that time).
You'll be getting a block of cards primarily from the Tempest, Exodus, Weatherlight, Visions, Stronghold, Urza's Saga, and Mirage sets, as well as a number of foreign language black bordered cards in Italian, French, Korean and Japanese (which I believe to be from the Fourth Edition in those countries but am not totally certain), and a handful of cards from the Revised edition, Fourth Edition, and Fifth Edition basic sets. There are also a small number of cards from Alliances, Homeland, the original Portal set, and lands from the Beta edition of Magic. A few are autographed by the artists.
As to the condition of the cards, I believe them all to be in very good to near-mint shape. I cannot give a blanket assurance that all of the cards are in perfect condition, but I used all or most of them in tournaments in the mid-'90s and I see no reason why they would not be tournament-playable today. The worst issue any of these cards have are very minor nicks along the edges. I will try to respond to inquiries from serious bidders as to the condition of any particular card but, again, cannot issue a guarantee as to their condition. The auction is for the entire book as-is.
I have neither the time nor the inclination to sell cards individually.
These cards have mellowed in the closet at my parents' house for long enough, but I got great joy out of playing with these cards when I was twelve to fourteen years old. I have a lot of great memories of Magic: not only organized Magic tournaments, mostly at the now-defunct Neutral Ground store in midtown Manhattan, but of long nights of friendly competition and laughter with good friends as a carefree teenager. I wish the buyer the same.
EDIT: I should add that as to telling apart Fourth Edition from Fifth Edition, I used my best guess.
