1. Very Easy
A. Opening Your Xbox 360 Controller
This is easy. You will need a T8 Torx tamper screwdriver or tool of some sort. I like the multi-tool one from auto parts stores.
Click to search eBay for the Torx tool to open your controller
Below is a quick link on detailed instructions of how to take the controller COMPLETELY apart.
You do not need to do this for all modifications.

B. LED Replacement for ROL (Controller)
Once your controller is open you will see the main board. Only take the front face of the controller off so that you can still keep the batteries in and test while you solder.
You will need
0603 SMD LED's 1 for each "quadrant"
Soldering Iron
Solder
Tweezers (Not required but I wouldn't suggest trying it without them)
I've tested out quite a few LED's, both from eBay and regular online stores. Here are a couple pictures so you understand what I am talking about. LED brightness MATTERS! Especially if you decide to replace them in your system. I will show pictures of the difference in those in that section.
My only suggestion to you is this.
Spend the extra 50 cents or $1.00. Get the BEST LED's you can find. This is something you will most likely not be replacing, unless you want to change the color again.
I bought one pack of LED's from Customize_Xbox360 and was instantly sold on them.
They are made in the USA, ship FAST, and are SUPER BRIGHT.
Many people label their LED's "Super Bright", you see the difference for yourself.
If you don't believe me, spend a few dollars and buy a couple sets blue(usually cheapest) from a few sources and install them and see yourself.
Here is a link to a search for his LED's. You need 4 for each controller. He gives you an extra.
He will also mix and match colors so you can truly customize.
Below are pictures of his LED's and other similar expensive ones.
Cick here to buy LED's from Customize_Xbox360
When you buy his LED's it comes with a link to a youtube video on how to install them.
Here is another link in case you already have LED's
