Wireless Credit Card Terminals (Motient, Mobitex, Gone)

The purpose of this guide is to notify potential shoppers for wireless credit card terminals of impending changes to the credit card processing infrastructure that has a huge effect on wireless credit card processing.

Inside of six months, the wireless processing networks, motient and mobitex will become unusable for credit card processing. This means that any Lipman Nurit 3010, 2090 wireless terminals will be unusable, and Nurit 8000 terminals that do not operate on the GPRS network will be useless inside of six months. Buying any of these terminals right now would be an absolute waste of money.

What wireless terminal to buy?
The only wireless credit card terminals that will be usable for an extended period of time are the Verifone VX 610 and the Nurit 8000 GPRS.

There are going to be a huge number of people and equipment resellers trying to pawn off their soon to be useless terminals on Ebay. You can expect to see very low prices on these terminals on ebay, and there may be some claims that these terminals will still be able to work. They will not work for wireless processing once the Motient and Mobitex networks are abandoned. Be vigilant if you are shopping for a wireless credit card machine on ebay right now.
