if you are starting to sell on ebay, or if you are just selling on the side to make extra money, i can tell you where to get some really good ideas where to get some inventory. its worth a shot to sell stuff on ebay and make a living at it but that is all in the fun of it. also research. if you find something that would be a seller you must first research it. will that item sell. does anyone have that up for sale. if someone else has that up for sale sell that item at a better price for the end user. that is what ebay is for. people are looking for deals on ebay and doing their shopping online. also you can check pulse.ebay.com to see what are hot sellers at that time. it changes from week to week so you never know what people are buying online. the first place you want to check is in your home. do you have lots of stuff cluttering up your home. do you have any designer handbags that you no longer use. you can sell them online and make some good money doing it. do you have lots of dvds. you can start by selling them individually. there are lots of people online buying dvds and looking for a certain one for their own collection. if you don't sell all of the dvds you can sell them as one large lot and make some good money that way. maybe you have some designer clothes. you can try to sell them on ebay and see if someone is buying them. another great place to look for items to sell is at garage sales. you will be surprised what people are selling and might find a treasure or two along the way. also you can get together with your family and friends. they may have something to sell and split what you make. another great place that i really like is goodwill stores. i have a few in my area and i check them out almost everyday because goodwill is putting stuff out constantly. the best time to get there is right when they open up because they have put out some of the really good stuff. you will be surprised what you find at a goodwill store. one of the cool things i found at a goodwill store was a bag of pez dispensers. i went through them and resold the whole entire bag. also at a goodwill store ask questions to the employees. ask them when the next load of items that maybe coming out onto the floor. always ask questions and see what is going on. you will be surprised what you find at a goodwill store. another great place to check out is at a flea market. flea markets are fun for the whole family and you will be surprised what you find there. like a kid in a candy store sometimes. another great place is to look in the newspaper. in the paper look for auctions at storage facilities. the owner of the storage facilities will have auctions regularly because people have fallen on hard times and fell behind on their rent. now the owner has to sell the contents. that is a great place to check out because you will never know what you find there. a friend of mine found a harley davidson bike in one of those storage auctions and made a serious profit off of that. another great place is at the retailers themselves. go there when they are having a major sale like 75 to 90 percent off sale. this occurs after a major holiday or after season items. you can buy those items at deep discounts and then resell them when the season comes back up again. also you can check with them and ask them to give you a bigger discount if you are going to purchase a lot of the same item. also you can do some liquidations. what you can do is go to a pawnshop or any local retailer and ask them if they have a large amount of items that are not moving. then you can talk to them and selling excessive inventory on ebay and split the profits with the retailer. this is worth a shot but you must talk to the manager or someone who handles inventory. also with goodwill stores, there may be also a place called a bargain bin. what most goodwill stores do is that they rotate their stock out regularly. anything that did not sell the store puts them into another area where they discount those items to sell. for example they may sell clothing by the pound, cd dvds and most video games they will sell them for a dollar each. they want to move these items out because they are getting more in. also they may have lots of books and video tapes. but look around in the bargain bin. i have one here in my area and they rotate out often so i go there everyday and see what they got. i have found items there that was not even in their main store.
shipping. this can be a major problems sometimes. you have to be reasonable when it comes to shipping. if you price it too high people might think you are price gouging or something. the best place to check for shipping rates is the post office website. the site can give you all of the rates within the united states as well as overseas. also you can print up postage from home and you don't have to wait in line for anything. the best thing about printing up your own postage is that you can give it to your postman when he delivers your mail or you can go to the post office itself and drop it off. also when you print your postage and pay using paypal a message will be sent to the buyer as well. both you and the buyer will get a tracking number. less hassle and less time waiting in line. also if you are going to ship larger items that the post office cannot handle, you can try ups or fedex. again you have to check their rates and compare.
also when you ship your items make sure that it is packed well and secured. the last you want is a negative rating because the item was not properly packaged or there is damage to the item. also you want to put a tracking number to the item you are shipping. when you ship to that person, they are going to say i never got that item. if you have a tracking number you are covered from having any problems.
ebay store. that is up to you. if you think you have enough inventory to open up one go right ahead and do that. if you have the time to run an ebay store that is a good thing but if you are only selling part time then its not worth the time to open and ebay store. you can make money on ebay its just how you run it and what you can find to make you happy.
also get a paypal account. it is fast to set up and everyone on ebay takes paypal. sometimes you may have someone that wants to pay by money order that is up to you, but most transactions are in paypal. at least with paypal you are covered if something goes wrong. also paypal has a debit card so get one and it is convenient as well. and you can purchase more items from stores. its very convenient if something were to come up. also when selling on ebay you cannot get around those fees. make sure you pay them or face problems down the line.
like i said before make sure you do your research before you sell something. the last thing you want to do is buy something and later regret it or doesn't sell.
also the irs has new rules in regards to how much you can make in one year. you can make less than 20,000 dollars a year and 200 listings. paypal will help you with this and keeps track of how much you made. if you go over this amount they will send you a 1099 form. so please be careful on how many listings and how much money you made. there is a subscription that will help you how much you made on a month to month basis. a great tool to help you out. but if you go all out with an ebay store then you have to pay those taxes.
i hope this guide helps you out and please vote if you like this.
