What's a United States Star Note? (Rare, on U.S. Money)

Star Notes are the most valuable and sought after type of US Currency produced in this decade! To those who do not know... Star Notes are actually replacement notes substituted by the Bureau of Printing and Engraving when dollar bills are made with Errors or Misprints. When an Error is made, and not suitable for circulation as determined by the BEP's inspectors, it is destroyed! But.... it is against policy to produce a dollar bill's serial number more than once, so ... a Star Note is used to replace the ones in error (notice the note above and the close up on the right). Due to the low production numbers of these type of notes, and their unique attributes, they are considered rare, collectible and painstakingly sought after.

A STAR Note is a note with a STAR (*) in the prefix or suffix position of the serial number. These notes are typically used to replace a note damaged during the printing process to maintain the correct count of notes in a serial number run. Packs of STAR notes are sometimes released when the supply is greater than what's needed. Since STAR notes are much more uncommon, they are prized by collectors.

You are able to find many of these on eBay!

So the next time you get cash back, make sure you check it. You never know if you got a Star Note.
