Volvo Remotes Misconception
There is a great deal of controversy surrounding these items. A few months back we had a Volvo
tech come to our store to purchase a volvo remote from us. He works at a local volvo dealership.
A discussion ensued regarding these remotes. He advised us, as we had suspected and known
for some time, that all Volvo remotes are programmable with the exception of the volvo flip key.
He said that the pin codes are obtainable from the remote, but that many dealerships did not want
to take the time to pull up the info. They make more money by selling the consumer a new product.
They make up a lot of excuses why they can not do it, when in fact they can. Some dealers may
not be up to snuf on their own products as well.
Each person we have sent to this local dealer has had no issues with programming a volvo remote.
Additionally, we recently had another gentleman that was located in Colorado that had purchased a
volvo remote. He went to his local dealer to get it programmed. They had all the usual excuses and
turned him away wanting to sell him a new unit. The gentleman called us rather upset as one might
expect. We gave him all the above info. A day later he called us back with a great story. He had
proceeded to go to another volvo dealer that had absolutely no problem programming the very same
remote that the previous dealer had just condemned and announced could not be programmed to his
car. The gentleman thanked us for being so candid and was thrilled at the money he had saved.
The moral of the story is that not all dealers will give you all the info, and may flat out not want to help
you. They often will try to give you excuses and mis-information in an effort to get you to purchase
their NEW item at much greater cost. Be careful and do your homework before going to them.
