The fakes my not have been made during the same year, but the creed states it is. Notice the colors, the detailing of real Coach bags. Check the stitching, the thickness, the shape of the hardware, and the inside. For instance, one of the pictures shows a later bag using rectangle hardware, while the fake bag that is similar states it was made earlier, although the hardware is rounded.
Most fakes have the creed date usually between 1996-98. I dunno why they chose those years, but they did. Additionally, many vintage fakes are truly vintage in that they were made in the 90s. So, they will show age in many cases. They are usually real leather, and made decently well. But, as you can see, they lack. You can definitely tell in the handles too.

The person who was selling the fake tote on the right was honest enough to post it as a faux Coach. The first time I've ever seen someone be that honest. Although, a lot of people may not know they have a fake, it's still up to you to know before going in. There are MANY fake Coach bags out there.

< Real vintage Coach interior characteristics. This is the same tote as the one below. This bag has two seams on the outside, but notice how you don't see them inside the bag? That's because Coach doesn't have that characteristic. Like I said, they may have one going through the middle of the bag on the bottom. Maybe a couple at most on the inside somewhere, but it's very flush, even, and doesn't look sloppy. Fakes are notorious for seams inside the bag. Coach doesn't have seams going through the bottom patch either. They will place the bottom interior patch over seams if that's the case, and then reinforce it with piping. But, you won't see a bunch of stitching.
