I buy scrap silver of all kinds. Most people think that just because it is marked makes it a 100% real NOT THE CASE. Ebay offers a wide range of sterling/925 hand stamps (jeweler stamps) for stamping anything. I have been buying sterling for years and have about 10 to 12 pounds of fake sterling that has been marked with these same type of stamps, so when buying silver be sure to have it tested or checked out by a jeweler. Testing with a magnet means nothing, some sterling is coated with magnetic coatings, and just because you have a peice that does'nt stick does not mean it's sterling(copper, tins, aluminum and stainless are not magnetic). The only real way to test sterling is acid(nitric or gold acid like 14k) these methods are easy and cheap to do.
