We say ignore all the hype, "plans", "deals", and most of all "Turn Key Opportunities with Placement Services". If you've entered any of these get rich quick schemes, you've found that the only one getting rich is the person who started it!! Your reading this because your sick of working for someone else, are looking for a business of your own, and we understand that!! We also understand that you need to work quickly, so we promise not to blab on. So here we go:
The large vending companies in your area have been able to get retailers to take their machines at only 25% of the take.. You can beat that. You can place machines and give your retailer up to 40%. NOTE: always start lower, it will give your retailer what they want. What do they want? the same thing you want when you buy a car... to THINK you have negotiated a great deal.
EVERY BUSINESS NEEDS A VENDING MACHINE: I can't stress this point enough. There isn't a business that doesn't want to make money without labor. This is free money for them. The type of product may change depending on the clientele, but we all use vending machines.
"I bet you could do pretty well with a gumball machine in here." That sentence has generated all of our business. Our typical response from the retailer was "we have problems with kids leaving their gum around". We promptly respond with " toys in capsules, candy, bouncy balls, jerky, your options are endless and it's free money" Then we talk... but we NEVER pressure... we have planted the seed and left a flyer with our product options.
Did I mention that EVERY business needs a vending machine? Insurance agency needs M&Ms, a garage needs Peanuts, a Bar needs jerky, a Mom & Pop store needs toy filled capsules, a redemption center needs Gumballs, toy filled capsules, and nuts!!! That's 3 machines!!!
I don't have a plan, get rich quick scheme, or a placement service to offer you. What I have to offer is my experience. An honest guy can make a living in this business. All I have to offer is an idea:
1. Be Honest, reliable, and reachable. No business owner needs to be convinced to have a machine, it's common sense once they think about it. So you do not need to be a sales person. PLANT THE SEED >> LEAVE YOUR CARD >> LEAVE THE BUSINESS.
2. They havn't contacted you in 2 weeks? Just like your garden, not every seed grows but, if you plant enough of them some will. FOLLOW UP >> How you ask? Great question!! You keep coming up with these questions and you'll write this whole thing for me!!
You Say The SAME THING "I bet you could do pretty well with a gumball machine in here." 99 out of 100 are now going to laugh. 30 of that 100 are going to say "I've been meaning to call you". 40 of them are going to say that they're not interested "at this time" 18 will say NO and 1 of them is going to get mad at you.
What does that leave us with ... ahhh yes 11... those people will say "Do you have a machine(s) with you?"
What do you do with the rest? (and yet another great question). You have planted the seed (again) >> LEAVE YOU CARD >> LEAVE THE BUSINESS... No PRESSURE!! It always wins.
3. So you've visited 100 businesses, managed to get one irate at you, 18 have turned you down flat. Let's deal with these people first. The one you PO'd, your going to send her a letter of apology right away.
Dear so and so, I'm Blank Black of Blank Vending. I came into your store today and may have been too abrasive (fill in any word there that fits). I just wanted to apologize for my actions today.... you'll have to buy the book for the rest.. hey what a great idea. You get the picture. Be honest and let them know that you were wrong and that your sorry. Do NOT try to sell in this letter, but enclose your card. Do not enclose any "Goodies" with this letter. You will turn around about 50% of these people because, like you, they have bad days and you hit it.
The other 18. Sorry, send them a letter in one month reminding them that you are still around. Don't forget to send them a gumball. It will get them to open the letter, it's cheap, and they'll remember you. They will call when they're good and ready. Follow up every 2 months.
4. The 40 that said that they're not interested at this time: "Would you like me to come back some time in the future?" Set a date or approximate.. DON'T PUSH OR THEY WILL END UP IN YOUR NO CATAGORY. Some other time is good enough. Followup in 3 to 4 weeks.
5. The easy ones: the "I've been meaning to call you" people. See what they want and they will end up falling in another catagory (we hope the "do you have a machine with you" catagory)
So that's it, our advice, our idea, I hope you found it helpful.... Ok OK I'll let you in on just a couple more secrets that will improve your odds and profit.
HOT TIP #1 .. This one's so hot it can burn you (quite literally) Hot Glue a Parachute Man to the back of your business card. I'm 36ish and still love them. They will too, or have a child that will. They are very inexpensive (available in our eBay store ... aw common' you know we had to get a shameless plug in there somewhere we'll even give you a discount on multiples if you mention this guide)
We came across this by mistake. We were in a parade, and wanted a creative way to get our cards out. When people pass out cards at the parade, they're kind of frowned upon. So we stuck parachute men to all of them and launched them of the back of the truck!!! What a hit!! Then to top it all off, we had some left over and passed them out on day to day business and calls tripled. Now, nothing goes out without a goodie (except that letter of apology).
This is also how we ended up getting into Point Of Sale (POS) products. The retailers started asking about those parachute men... now we sell them, gliders, ond other classic toys in displays.
HOT TIP # 2.. You need to be Honest, Reliable, and Reachable. Do what you say you will do. Be there when you say that you will be there, and have a way for people to contact you that is acceptable in the business industry.
