I have always had a bit of a hip problem. I am shaped like a pear. Most women are. I am really very tall, but my larger hips are still very prominent and they drive me insane. I try and try to lose in that area, but my butt is still a LARGE part of my life – pardon the pun.
However, I have discovered a huge secret that the fashion world wants to keep all to itself…want to take years and pounds off instantly? Of course you do! Who wouldn’t? It can be as simple as making the right choice. The right colors and styles can be the difference that makes you or breaks you.
If you’re really serious about taming your butt, check out a product called SPANX Higher Power. They are designed to address the hip problem and carried in better department stores. You can even find them here on eBay. SPANX don’t seem to stand the test of time, BUT man do they do the job! You can lose serious inches in one fitting. They have a no-slip waist band which fits snuggly makes you look absolutely great in your garments. Also, LIPO IN A BOX has incredible suction and is super tight. You can count on losing up to 2 inches in every area. BUT...it costs about $84.
I swear by Burlington Control Top and support hose. They totally take care of what mother nature failed to complete and it doesn't seem to hurt my pocketbook quite as much when a nail goes throughh one of the legs as I pull them up. They are super affordable.
Ok, enough about liners. All clothing is not created equal either. Some of the most incredibly couture and beautiful clothing can make you look down-right dowdy. Who in their right mind wants to look like that? That’s why fashion designers make sure that they dress models to their figure. Have you really ever seen a professional model that didn’t look relatively attractive in the garment she was showing? You can dress to your figure too! I know it sounds simple - maybe a little too simple. But the right color and cut can make all the difference. The right styles and cuts in your wardrobe can help you appear thinner, accentuate your attributes and even hide trouble areas.
Here are some helpful hints for minimizing everything from your waist to your hips and ways to lengthen and slim your appearance. The right shapewear eliminates worries about butt buge or muffin top. The only true fashion crime is a lovely outfit that does not fit. I often wear a pair of control top panty hose to get my butt's shape under control...sometimes two! Regardless of their size, most catalogue models also do this.
What about wearing jeans? Even in jeans I always wear some sort of control top liner. And, it always works for me. You may think I am nuts, but one of the most unattractive parts of having larger hips is the illusion that is created with underwear. DUMP THEM! There is absolutely no reason to wear panties with a control top liner. You’ll create a smooth visual field that is not broken by lines that bind. Nothing worse than a pair of jeans that are just too tight. Find a pair that have a little lycra or stretch to them so that you'll have a little more hind-end security when strutting your stuff.
Likewise, if your butt has a few dimples, and whose doesn't, try wearing a pant with a pattern. Patterns tend to hide dimples. I was recently at a celebration and this lovely small woman approached me wearing a smart outfit that consisted of stretch capris. Upon the completion of our delightful conversation she walked away only to reveal horrible dimples which could have certainly been disguised with a pattern or texture in the pant. The sad thing was that she was SO put together except for her buttocks. I even heard some ladies comment that she should not have worn the capris - which were quite darling. Unfortunately, it could happen in a dress as well. Again, either wear a support liner or a slight pattern in your garment. I know I've been in that place - we've all probably been there.
Never ever wear a crop jacket or one that hits you at your waist. Designers these days are making jackets shorter. This is NOT attractive for those of us who need a little help. A short jacket will always draw attention to your hips. Instead, wear a jacket that falls just below the heaviest part of your butt. Choose one that is talored to accentuate your waist. If you've found that great jacket but it's a little boxy, take it to your tailor and have them add a few darts. This will create a MUCH thinner illusion - which is always a good thing. Wearing a darker jacket is always a plus. Again, if you can, have your jacket tailored so that it gives you a fitted look - not tight - just fitted. And simple accents arould your jacket's coller like a classic strand of white pearls, a scarf, flower or brooch will draw attention up from your waist up. I cannot stress this enough.
Finally, 95% of getting over your large hips is in your attitude. Regardless of your size, if your a vibrant woman filled with confidence (even though it may be a little shakey), work it. There is alot of truth to the old saying, "Fake it til you make it." And, gracious sakes, don't let your caboose hold you back.
I don’t have all the answers. No one does. But remember….NO ONE is perfect. Even professional models have flaws…ALL OF THEM. They just have a few more secrets than some. I hope these tips have helped. You CAN manage your figure. Remember, you CAN dress like a million bucks without the price tag. Shop smart.
