Rolex Yachtmaster and Yachtmaster II

This guide was created for the Rolex enthusiasts or potential buyers in order to inform them about the differences and mainly characteristics of the Yachtmaster and the new Yachtmaster II. It includes the Rolex Yachmaster's Retail Prices from 2008.

Rolex Yachtmaster: An Accuracy Symbol

In 1992, the Rolex Yachtmaster was first introduced, available in 18K yellow gold, exclusively. Then in 1994, Rolex added two new models to the line: a ladies (model 69628) and mid size (model 68628), respectively, marking the first time a Professional series watch was released in the smaller sizes. Originally, these models were only available in 18K yellow gold as well. The Yachtmaster was derived from the Submariner with a modified bezel and the bezels on both watches are useful as a 60-minute timers.
However, in 1996 Rolex released two-toned (steel and 18K yellow gold) models as the ladies (model 69623) and mid-sized (model 68623), respectively.
Today, an all-stainless steel version is also available, but only in mid-size models.
In 1997, Rolex released the Yachtmaster in Rolesium, a term patented by Rolex in 1932, signifying a stainless steel and platinum finish. The success of this configuration has been likened to that of the stainless steel Daytona, with sales in the secondary market exceeding that of the initial retail price. This, of course, was due to the limited availability of the watch, which Rolex will likely continue to cash in on for years to come.
The Yacht-Master line as a whole has grown to become one of the more popular models of recent years, especially with the younger group of buyers hitting the market.

Functions of the Yachtmaster:
Hours, minutes, small seconds, date and rotative bezel (60-minute timer).

Available in different Case Sizes:
Ladies model: 29 x 10.5 mm
Mid Size model: 34 x 12.5 mm
Mens model: 40 x 12.5 mm

The Yachtmaster II features a 4160 calibre, a new movement that consists on 360 components completely produced and designed by Rolex.
According to its bezel, it features a Ring Command one designed and developed by Rolex. It is rotative 90 degrees making possible the access to the programming function of the countdown and the locking system of the program.
For the New Yachtmaster watches there are no Stainless Steel versions available, it could be only in yellow gold and there is a bit more expensive model in white gold.
