TOOLS NEEDED... Flathead screwdriver, pliers

First, unhook the fill tube from the nylon inner strap that holds it up to the top of the cloth bag. Now you can disassemble the cloth bag and replace whichever part you need to replace.

The bag clamp strap around the bottom of the cloth bag where it connects to the emptor will come apart without breaking if you pull/pry up on it with the flathead screwdriver. Be sure to put a folded towel or rag between the shaft of the screwdriver and the emptor so that it won't mar the plastic when you are prying the strap off. It should come off easily once it comes apart since it is not glued or otherwise fastened to the assembly.

Once you remove the bag clamp strap, with the bag unzipped, you should be able to work the cloth bag loose from the emptor. Be sure to CAREFULLY study the placement of the soft rubber bottom lip of the cloth bag as to how it lies on the emptor before taking it completely off so that you can put either it or the new cloth bag back onto the emptor. If you have a brand new cloth bag, the upper rubber ring has to be folded down so that it looks like the one on the old cloth bag before putting it onto the emptor.

If you are replacing a fill tube, simply cut the cable ties at the top and bottom of the fill tube, put the new fill tube on and replace the cable ties.

If you have a G3, G4 or early G5 with the "accordion-like" fill tube, simply unscrew it, screw on the new one and replace the cable ties. If you are replacing the emptor on one of these older models and your fill tube is still ok, then please be aware that the old "screw on" emptors are discontinued and the new style has a smaller hole diameter than the old style emptors. You can make the new style emptor work with the old style fill tube by pulling the bottom cable tie VERY TIGHT, or you can replace/update the whole emptor/fill tube assembly which gives you the new style emptor, crush proof "snap-on" fill tube and fill tube topper (disposable bag adapter).

If you have a late G5 model or newer and the fill tube is the newer style, pry the old fill tube off of both the fill tube topper and the emptor with your flathead screwdriver. When reassembling with the new "snap-on" fill tube, it helps to put a bit of lubricant (WD40, hand lotion, dish detergent and Vaseline will all do the job and you only need a TINY bit) on both the plastic lip of the emptor and the plastic lip of the fill tube topper so that the new fill tube will "snap" into place easier.

To put it back together with the new cloth bag or emptor (whichever part you are replacing), it is easiest to unzip the cloth bag and position the rubber ring over the lip of the emptor in one spot (I usually start at the front) and work it onto the lip on the emptor until it is evenly lapped over the lip of the emptor all of the way around. When you start to place the cloth bag on, you must position the mouth of the fill tube topper so that it faces direct out of the center of the open zipper. If the part that you are replacing is the cloth bag, then it will be a bit difficult due to the stiffness of the new rubber ring. You just have to pull a bit harder to get the lip into it's proper position. :0)

Replace the bag clamp strap by pushing it together as far as you can and then finishing the tightening with the widest setting on the pliers. The placement of the bag clamp strap's connector is up to you. I prefer the end of the bag clamp strap to face the rear of the Kirby with the connector on the side of the emptor that is closest to the main unit so that it is hidden from view when the bag is on the machine, but it doesn't really matter...it will work wherever you place it. :0)

To change the bag top cover: (If you are replacing the cloth bag with a new one)

If you squeeze the clip at the top of the cloth bag, it will just feed down through the rectangular hole in the bag top cover. It goes back in the same way. :0)
