Instead of throwing away that DVD player you bought a few years ago and running out to buy a new one because the battery won't hold a charge anymore, consider having the battery rebuilt! Yes, it CAN be done!!
After a few years, the battery for my Insignia portable DVD player would no longer hold a charge (the secret, I discovered too late, is to charge the battery about once every couple of months) and I went searching for a replacement battery. But because the player is a few years old I had absolutely no luck at all in finding a battery, including here on eBay. And being on a limited budget I couldn't really afford a new player.
Sooo, on a whim I decided to stop in at a local Circuit City (formerly Radio Shack here in Canada) store and discovered I could have the battery rebuilt for what I discovered was a price about 50% less than buying a new player!
After dropping off my battery, paying a deposit and waiting about three weeks I received my rebuilt battery.
I was very surprised (and of course, pleased) to discover the original capacity of the fully-charged battery (about two hours viewing time) has increased to more than twice that after rebuilding (about 4.5 hours)!! And the battery doesn't take any longer to fully recharge than it did when new!
The sales representative at Circuit City told me they can rebuild almost any battery/battery pack (not the regular off-the-shelf batteries like AA, AAA, C or D of course, but the proprietary batteries or battery packs that come in many devices)
So, next time you or someone you know can't find a replacement battery/battery pack for their portable device, pay a visit to Circuit City and ask about their rebuild program.
I'm not affiliated in any way with either Circuit City or Insignia. Just a very satisfied customer, that's all!
