Magician John Carney Collectibles: Magic Magazines

Magician John Carney has appeared on several magic magazine covers, including "Magic," "Genii" and "The Linking Ring" published by the International Brotherhood of Magicians.  These magazines make great collectibles if you're a fan of John.  I am.  I've seen him perform several times, and he's one of the best magicians in the world.

According to an internet search on Magic Biography, John Carney won First Prize in Micromagic at FISM 1988, and Second Prize in Micromagic at FISM 1991.  He often performs at the Magic Castle in Hollywood.

Here are some of the covers he has appeared on.

Magic, February 2001

John on the cover seated on a bench (right out front of the Magic Castle), wearing black with his hands together.  Inside is a 6-page article "John Carney: A work in progress" by John Moehring.  For another Carney cover on "Magic," check out the Dec. 1997 issue, with John in a play called "Will, the Witch & the Watch".

"Magic" is one of my favorite magic magazines.  It's published by Stan Allen out of Las Vegas.  It's great reading.  I'm a long-time subscriber.

Genii, October 1982

John on the cover wearing a suit and tie, standing in front of a library of magic books.  Inside are 6 more pages on John, including "My friend John Carney" by Faucett W. Ross, "Art...In magic?" by John Carney, and several Carney tricks revealed including "Short and sweet," "Versa switch," "Seconds on Jack sandwich," A 'revolutionary' color change," "Coins across to purse" and "The impossible coin vanish".

"Genii" is another of my favorite magic magazines.  It was once published by the Larsen family of Magic Castle fame.  Now it is published by Richard Kaufmann, and he's done an excellent job.  I highly recommend this magazine!  That's why I subscribe.

Genii, September 1993

John on the cover wearing a blue sport coat, entangled in several colored poles.  Inside are 10 more pages on John including "Being John Carney in theory and practice" by Stephen Minch

Genii, April 15, 1999

John on the cover in character as "Mr. Mysto" with black-rimmed glasses and a cheesy mustache and goatee.  Inside are 12 pages of material including a feature article "Inside the mind of Mr. Mysto".

The Linking Ring, September 1986

A young John on the cover smiling and wearing a suit.  Inside is a four-page article by John Booth titled "With Carney in Conjuringland".  "The Linking Ring" is only distributed to members of the International Brotherhood of Magicians.  I've been a member for years, and I love reading "The Linking Ring".  It was once edited by Phil Willmarth, who kept a very high standard for the journal.  Now the editor is Samuel Patrick Smith, and he's doing a great job.

Thanks for taking a moment to read my guide.  My name is Magician Michael E. Johnson, one of the top magicians in California.  I love learning about magic history, and sharing my enthusiasm for magic collectibles with the world.  I've written dozens of eBay guides on magic collectibles.
