Hi, and welcome to my free e-bay guide to Kingdom of Loathing, and how to buy and sell items on it the easy and legal way!
I make learning fun!
Now, first of all, if you don't know what Kingdom of Loathing (which will be referred to as "KOL" from now on), it's a Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG) that's only graphics are stick figures. Yeah.
I highly doubt you'd be reading this guide if you didn't know what KOL was, though, so I'll continue.
KOL items have been flooding into e-bay for about one year now, and our lovely admins, Jick and Mr. Skullhead, have never done anything about it; they once made a forum post that basically said they didn't care if people sold KOL items, although this was over two years ago.
Since then, there has been much debate on the forums. The majority of KOL players don't care about e-bay items being sold, although some are violently against it enough to flood Jick with emails about it. Either way, this guide is there to help sellers make money and to prevent buyers from getting ripped off.
Now, what's the #1 rule of e-bay? That's right. DO YOUR HOMEWORK. If someone's selling, say, a football helmet for 1.00 and it seems like a neat investment, go to the Kingdom of Loathing mall and see what you can find in there. Reality is, a Football Helmet is worth less than 300 meat. Good thing you checked, huh? Another thing to do your homework on is the value of meat. Search the mall for "Mr. Accessory" and divide the lowest price you see by 10. That's how much 1.00 is worth in meat. Currently, 410,000 meat = 1.00. DO NOT PAY ANYTHING EXTRA, AS DONATING 10$ GETS YOU A MR. ACCESSORY.
This also means you don't want to spend over 10$ on a Mr. A on e-bay..... Actually, scrap that; don't buy or sell Mr. Accessories on ebay. It's horrible for the game, as it takes away from donations Jick would get; also, most Mr. A's reach over 9.50 on ebay. Just donate, pay the extra 50 cents, and don't make Jick lose money.
Remember, newbies, guides are sometimes good, but don't get carried away. It's impossible to make over 350,000 meat in one day, and that requires amazingly large amounts of luck and meat. Most people only make 150,000 a day, and are happy about it. Millions of meat a day is IMPOSSIBLE without literally spending 24 hours a day on KOL.
Now comes the time for a segment that's in all of my guides: it's called "How to not get scammed", and it always begins with checking the seller's feedback. If over 33% of their feedback is negative, don't bid. It means you have a 33% chance of getting scammed. Remember, if you're new to ebay, to only send your item/leave feedback AFTER payment is received. A lot of KOLers start ebay accounts just to sell items here, and this mistake is made commonly. 50% of the time, it ends in the seller getting scammed. Also, never buy/sell accounts. Most of these accounts will be disabled when you get them, as buying/selling accounts is against Jick's policies. Last, but not least, if the seller's name isn't in the auction, don't bid. Just a rule of thumb to follow.
I hope you enjoyed my little guide; have fun buying KOL items the correct way!
EDIT: The downvoting of this guide only proves that a LOT of people are selling accounts and Mr. A's. *sigh*
Keep in mind that the Dev Team recently changed their stance on e-bay; they're now quite against us selling items there, but they're not enforcing it or making it a rule.
