Knives made in China...

I have been collecting and using knives for numerous years and in a previous life, like many others had to depend on my knife more than daily being a Veteran and former Navy Seal!

I have read all of the guides generously put forth by our community members...obviously we write these guides to be helpful and considerate,as well as, to allow you to SHARE in our knowledge and experiences!

I agree that MOST of the "China" made knives are inferior in technology and materials.

However, when you shop for your knife you MUST keep in mind the quality of the mother knife company ie: Harley-Davidson,Gerber (Rough Rider),Remington,Spyderco,Boker (Magnum),etc...They have built a carriage trade by building quality knives and as competative measure and possibly to further trade good-tidings,not to mention lower assembly/production costs have out-sourced to China, Mexico, Spain, etc...

The long and the short of this guide is that, the knife manufacturer that we have trusted as OURS, still gives us bang for our buck in all areas of quality (minimally 420 steel), useful/useable design and durable handle materials.

If you look at the type of steel used in the knife blades, 420 is 420 and 440 is 440 no matter where the knife has been assembled or manufactured and MOST knives have been heat treated (you'll know this by the sheen on the blade...less sheen = less heat).

Hopefully this guide is helpful and worthwhile reading to you.
