How can a person make sense of the various sizes in women's clothes?
What makes an item a junior's? What about plus sizes? Then, there are petites and talls and misses and women's and the sizes with the W after them...
This has been an issue in my home based ebay business...my poor husband is beside himself with all the various women's sizes! There are junior's, misses, petites, talls and plus size women's.
Here is the breakdown:
Juniors are the odd numbers: 00, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15 and sometimes even 17/19.
Misses are the even numbers: 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 (18 begins the plus sizes)
The shirts are generally sized like this:
XL=16 XL/1X Jr=13/15
XXL=16/18 XXL/2X Jr=17
Misses sizes tend to run a little larger than juniors...for example...a junior's medium/large may fit a misses small; a misses large may fit a junior's xl/xxl.
misses' sizes run into the beginning of plus sizes...
for example, misses have an xxl (which could fit a 1X) but there is no misses size that will fit a 2X and up, general rule.
Plus sizes run like this...
1X=16/18 and sometime 20
The size with a "W" after them seem to be cut a little wider than the sizes without the "W"...I am not certain, but it does seem to be so.
Talls tend to have a longer body and longer sleeve length.
Petites tend to have a shorter body and short sleeve length.
This is a general guideline and will vary by brand.
