Insurance through Stamps.com

I have had excellent luck with breakable items on Ebay.  Then one day I sold a couple of collectible coffee cups and one had broken.  Since these were collectibles, I insured them for $30 for the pair.  However, they only sold for $5 each.  When I filed a claim, and received a check in the amount of $5, I was surprised.  Apparently, they ONLY refund what you received in payment for the item.  I had been over-insuring collectible items (and jewelry items also), and would have been greatly disappointed if I had to file a claim on them.  I have learned a valueable lesson here. I only insure now for the SALE price of an item and then I will NOT be disappointed. I ended up paying the seller double what she paid for the broken item, thinking I was covered by the insurance, but alas, I took a loss on that one!  I do not know how any other insurance carriers work, such as Auctiva, because I have never used them.  I think Stamps.com is thru the USPS also, so perhaps that is also their policy.
