"MY GOD!!! I BOUGHT A FAKE RALPH LAUREN SHIRT!!!" u shouted hysterically all around your house when u realized that the shirt u bought is a fake one!!dont let this happen.!!!
Here (PICTURES INCLUDED FOR EASE OF COMPARISON) I have compared between the authentic and the fake ralph lauren and a lot of differences can be spotted..below are the simplest guide lines to be followed before u bid or buy which i can find very helpful....
above are 2 yarmouth ralph lauren dress shirt..at a glance u cant spotted which one is the fake one..for your info. the yellow shirt is the authentic shirt and the blue shirt is the fake..let us go to the detail of the shirts for comparison..
1.PONY LOGO
ask a close up picture of the pony logo embroided on the chest..a fake ralph lauren pony wont be so detail..and u can see that the colour thread tailored for the logo will be mixed up with one or more colour..for a multi colour pony logo..the authentic ralph lauren have a dark brown colour for the horse not light brown..
a. solid colour pony logo
AUTHENTIC ..a very fine solid colour thread..
FAKE ..a few white thread (on the pony leg) mixed with red thread
b. multi colour pony logo
AUTHENTIC..the yellow shirt..dark brown mat thread colour pony with dark blue rider shirt.
FAKE..the blue shirt..a light brown shinning thread colour pony with light blue rider shirt.
2.SIDE SEAM STITCHES
ask for the side seam stitches picture
AUTHENTIC.yellow shirt..ralph lauren shirt should have a fine neat single sided seam stitches
FAKE..blue shirt..the fake one you will see a double sided seam stitches.
3.BUTTON
for the button..dont bid or buy on the shirt that have a printed ralph lauren letter on it..and furthermore, the authentic ralph lauren have a thick button..and it must be a slight pearl colour (yellowish) not a clear button..
the yellow shirt is the authentic ralph lauren shirt..it have a thicker button than the blue shirt which is a fake one..
4.COLLAR
for the ralph lauren polo t-shirt..the fake one will have a sluggish sleeves hem..and the fake one also will have a thick hard collar..
5.STITCHES
inspect carefully on all the stitches..if u found another alien thread colour (sometimes it was a very tiny thread) other than the shirt colour (it was accidently sewn because a fake product usually produced in a mass production)..probably it was a fake..
6.FABRIC
ask for a close up picture of the fabric..the authentic ralph lauren shirt dont have a lot of furs (i dont know how to descript this..but what i mean is the fabric was not smooth and with bad wrinkles and very hard to iron
7.INNER SHOULDER SEAM
ask for the inside shoulder seam picture..the authentic ralph lauren will have a fine seam compared to the fake one..
FAKE..the inner shoulder seam tailored badly
AUTHENTIC..a very fine neat tailored inner shoulder seam
8.SLEEVES HEM
this guide is very easily use..ask for the sleeves hem picture from the seller.
AUTHENTIC..the orange polo shirt..a neat grip sleeves hem
FAKE..the black polo shirt..poor grip and sluggish sleeves hem
9.UPPEST COLLAR BUTTON HOLE
AUTHENTIC..the one that i pointed out with my finger at the uppest collar button hole is the real POLO shirt(darker colour)..
FAKE..and the other one is the fake POLO shirt(lighter colour)..
u can see that the real polo shirt had a longish straight protruding uppest collar button hole..but the fake one had a roundish uppest collar button hole..
this will also goes to other POLO shirts not only implies to POLO denim shirt..spot the fake one at a glance in the seller picture..

below is the numbers of type of ralph lauren that i use for comparison..
-> 8 numbers of authentic yarmouth ralph lauren shirts vs 4 numbers of fake yarmouth shirts
-> 6 numbers of polo ralph lauren shirt vs 2 numbers of fake polo ralph lauren shirt
and all the results were similar to the above..
another few steps to avoid from accidently bid or buy fake RL :
a. avoid seller with huge quantity of RL for sale
b. avoid seller advertised their product using polo.com picture
c. dont trust with "100% GUARANTEED AUTHENTIC RL" or comes with polybag..or..with RL tag..as advertised by seller
d. ask FOR more pictures..MORE PICTURES..MORE PICTURES !!!
e. lastly...pray to god.....amen...
these are all what i know from my comparison from the fake ralph lauren and the authentic one..maybe u can use it as the guidelines..the most percentage to get a fake ralph lauren shirt is when u bid or buy on NWT or NWOT ralph lauren product in ebay( i rather buy used shirt as long as it is authentic)..so becareful!!!
