How to Salvage your Crank Shaft

  • Your Crank Shaft is not always ruined

  • Depending on how scuffed your Crank Shaft is, a few scuffs will not matter.

  • Is the Crank Shaft Scuffed?

  • Or is it part of  the Aluminum bearing melted to the crank?

  • Usually it is the aluminum and the local machine shop can acid dip the crank and eat the aluminum off and a slight polish should do.

  • I use the swimming pool chemical or concrete cleaner, murautic acid by wrapping a piece of cloth around the crank jurnal while the crank is still in the block and put the acid on the cloth and it will eat the aluminum off but not harm the crankshaft.

  • And if you have alot of time a simple pocket knife can remove the aluminum from the steel crank shaft.

  • Hope this helps.                   Kevin
