How to Determine a Good Steampunk Product

A steampunk product should be a real, working device such as a clock, lamp, or piece of clothing, etc. that has been artistically altered with metal devices to appear more mechanical or Victorian.  Plastic or resin molded devices look silly next to the real thing.  Alternative art should be achieved using clock gears or wheels, hopefully including many cogs,  metal tubing and other 19th century appearing plumbing devices,  and / or symbolic icons, such as keys, owls, octopus, hearts, etc.  All metal should be painted or in some way treated so as not to appear shiny and new but rather old and rusted.
